2026 Skywarn Youth Severe Weather Awareness
March 15th – March 29th
Join Skywarn Youth ham radio operators for the second year in a row as we operate Special Event Station: N0A (November Zero Alpha), March 15th through March 29th, in an effort to encourage hams throughout the U.S. and around the world to learn about Severe Weather Awareness.
We plan to operate SSB and FT8 on: 160m, 80m, 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, and 10m
We will be on the air at various times of the day and night as time permits. Please give us some contacts and say “hello”!
If you don’t have access to HF radio, then be sure to check into at least one of our nets during this Special Event Station’s operational period. Those nets will take place on March 15th, March 22nd, and March 29th. All check-ins to those three nets will be added to our N0A Special Event Log.
We look forward to contacting you and many more, so please spread the word!
Each spring, National Weather Service Forecast Offices hold Severe Weather Awareness weeks in their respective regions to educate the public about the dangers of severe weather and the importance of being prepared. Our goal with this special event station is to do the same within the amateur radio community.
During a weather emergency, seconds can save lives; they might even save yours! Being prepared for severe weather and establishing situational awareness during severe weather events is crucial and will help you and your family to stay safe.
Our first Severe Weather Awareness Special Event Station operation was a remarkable success! We operated last spring as time permitted from March 17th through March 31st. We made over 2,000 contacts using both SSB voice and FT8 digital modes. We were also featured on Amateur Radio Newsline and in the CQ Blind Hams Podcast! Welcome to the official website for the Skywarn Youth Net. The Skywarn Youth Net is a weekly Net (or on-air meeting). This Net provides valuable training for young amateur radio operators by helping them learn how to handle on-air traffic, by introducing them to different geographic locations and names here in the United States and throughout the world, and by encouraging awareness about basic weather facts and current and upcoming weather conditions.
We meet every Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Central Time via participating amateur radio repeaters and worldwide digital Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) networks.
Please Join Us!
All hams of all ages throughout the world are encouraged to check in and help give valuable experience to the young hams who host these weekly nets.
If there are no local on-air repeaters in your area carrying the Skywarn Youth Net, you can always join us via VoIP.
If you own/operate an on-air repeater and you would like to carry the Skywarn Youth Net on it, feel free to connect via one of our VoIP networks. You do not need prior permission to connect in. However, if you plan for your repeater to be a regular affiliate, please let us know so that we can add you to our listings on this website and so that we can add your geographical area to our Net Script.
